BrowserVet does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. All processing happens entirely within your browser.
1. Introduction
BrowserVet ("the Extension") is a Chrome extension that audits the permissions requested by your installed browser extensions and assigns trust scores to help you understand potential risks. This Privacy Policy explains what data we access, how we use it, and your rights.
2. Data We Access
BrowserVet accesses only the metadata of your installed extensions (name, version, permissions, enabled status) through the Chrome management API. This information never leaves your device.
3. Data We Store
The Extension stores the following data locally using the Chrome Storage API:
- Computed trust scores and risk classifications for each extension
- Permission change history (to detect when extensions add new permissions)
- Your notification and scanning preferences
- Scan schedule configuration
All stored data resides in your browser's local storage and is never transmitted externally.
4. Permissions and Why We Need Them
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| management | Read metadata and permissions of installed extensions to compute risk scores |
| storage | Persist trust scores, scan history, and user preferences locally |
| alarms | Schedule periodic automated scans in the background |
| notifications | Alert you when an extension's permissions change or a new risk is detected |
5. Data We Do NOT Collect
- No personal information (name, email, IP address)
- No browsing history or activity
- No cookies or tracking identifiers
- No analytics, telemetry, or usage metrics
- No data is sent to any server, API, or third party
6. Third-Party Services
BrowserVet uses no third-party services, SDKs, or external APIs. There are zero network requests made by this extension.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
All data is stored locally and persists only while the extension is installed. Uninstalling BrowserVet automatically removes all associated data. You can also clear stored data at any time through the extension's settings.
8. GDPR Compliance
Because BrowserVet does not collect or process personal data, most GDPR obligations do not apply. However, we are committed to the principles of data minimization and transparency. No data controller or processor relationship exists, as no personal data is handled.
9. CCPA Compliance
BrowserVet does not sell, share, or disclose personal information. As defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, there is no personal information collected, and therefore no categories of information to disclose, delete, or opt out of.
10. Children's Privacy
BrowserVet does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Since no personal data is collected from any user, the extension is compliant with COPPA requirements.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the extension constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
